Gifts are not necessary. Your presence and your efforts undertaken to be there are gift enough.
Anytime you like, of course. If you have the time, we recommend taking a few days, before or after the wedding, to enjoy the city or other parts of Eastern Europe. There is no shortage of things to see and do in Budapest and the surrounding areas. The wedding will be on the 3rd, but we will also be planning some events around the city that weekend so you can become better acquainted. If you have a couple of extra days, Vienna is a quick 3 hour train ride from Budapest and a highly recommended sidetrip.
Check your flight aggregator of choice, but often the best deals are directly from the airlines’ own website:
Lufthansa, Air France, KLM, Alitalia, Iberia, Finnair, germanwings, Aer Lingus.
From the aiport there is an official taxi you can hire from a kiosk just outside the terminal, safe and reliable. The fare should be around 20 euros.
The wedding and party will take place in the Castle District of Budapest. The Hilton is the most convenient to the wedding events (ceremony takes place less than 20m from there). The Art'otel, also within walking distance is at the bottom of the hill, on the Danube river and is more convenient for exploring the rest of central Budapest. Another small basic hotel, the Burg is near the venue, right across from the Hilton. Also, not far from the venue is a reliable large business hotel, the Mercure Buda.
We have group rates agreed at the Hilton and Art'otel but have found that those available through direct booking are often better. In case they are not, you can always call/email the hotel and get the group rate: Art'otel €99, Hilton €150 for a double including breakfast, taxes, etc. Danube views are €20 extra. For reservations at the Hilton, please e-mail Aniko Horvath with "Berta-Jones Wedding" in the subject line. For reservations at the Art'otel, please reference our names when you call.
You can keep track of the twitter feed for the wedding (on the right hand side of this page or @berta_jones) where we will be posting different things to do and see in Budapest . Please now take a moment to roll your eyes at the fact that we are using a twitter feed, but it IS easier for us to make updates there than to continually update this site.
